DSHS After Action Report for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita

In August and September 2006 health and medical officials at the state and local levels across Texas responded to the needs of residents and evacuees impacted by both Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. At the state level, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) coordinated the health and medical response. Post-recovery, DSHS commissioned The Litaker Group through a competitive procurement process to conduct a comprehensive assessment of agency activities related to this response. This included a review of activities related to federal cooperative agreements, on-site discussions at 15 focus groups statewide, and the presentation and facilitation of a one-day summit in Austin, Texas.
